Transducer Membranes
Cygnus single element transducers have a protective membrane fitted to the transducer face to protect it from damage while being used on rough and corroded surfaces. The membrane also helps the transducer face “mold” to the uneven surfaces typically encountered when measuring corrosion.
The performance of Cygnus transducers depends on the condition of this membrane and how well it has been fitted. Cygnus recommends that single element membranes are replaced frequently as a precaution. Or of course at the first sign of any tearing or damage.
Membranes are available in two materials; the standard Polyurethane membrane is suitable for surface temperatures up to 167°F (75°C) and the Teflon membrane is suitable for surface temperatures up to 302°F (150°C) – with a maximum contact time of 5 seconds.
A pack of standard membranes is supplied in each gage kit.
