Cygnus Instruments are the leading manufacturer of Multiple-Echo ultrasonic thickness gauges which are used to obtain accurate and reliable metal thickness measurements through coatings. The range of surface thickness gauges manufactured by Cygnus can be used in many applications such as civil engineering, offshore platforms, oil and gas pipelines, road tankers, storage tanks, etc. The Cygnus thickness gauges that received particular interest at Plant and Asset Management included:
- ATEX approved Cygnus 1 Intrinsically Safe which has been designed to be safely used in potentially explosive environments, for measuring metal thickness to determine wastage or corrosion. This thickness gauge requires no plant shutdown or hot work permit and can be used in Zone 0, Zone 1 hazardous areas.
- The Cygnus 3 Data Logger is a simple yet versatile method of logging thickness measurements through protective coatings. It has three data logging modes: simple linear with a capacity of up to 5000 points in each record; grid based using simple XY grids for up to 5000 points; and template based which features definable measurement points, minimum and reference thickness values.
- RINA type approved, the Cygnus 4 General Purpose is Cygnus’ most compact and light-weight thickness gauge. The gauge has a simple menu operation with only 3 tactile keys and, as with most Cygnus thickness gauges, has a ‘Deep-Coat’ mode allow easy thickness gauging through coatings up to 20 mm.
